Our
Objectives
The following objectives describe the specific knowledge
and skills that students should develop during the
course.
The focus of the curriculum is on the
development of two major language domains--oracy
(speaking and listening) and literacy (writing and
reading).
In addition, the English curriculum is designed
to widen students' knowledge and appreciation of the
English language. Students are given opportunities to:
develop an understanding of how language varies
according to audience, purpose, and situation
develop an understanding of the structures and
conventions of language
develop an understanding that language changes over
time.
Throughout the curriculum, teachers are encouraged to
act as reflective practitioners, using their knowledge
of language and individuals' learning needs to guide
their decisions about classroom instruction, activities,
and resources.
